R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A 100th birthday is truly cause for celebration, and
  on July 7, 2007, Cordell Patrick of San Antonio observed this
  significant milestone in her life; and
         WHEREAS, Born in 1907 in Lake Providence, Louisiana, the
  former Cordell Hubbard was the seventh child of Charlie and Mattie
  Hubbard; raised by her great-aunt and great-uncle in Greenville,
  Mississippi, she went on to pursue teacher training in Demott,
  Arkansas, where she met her future husband, Johnny Patrick, Sr.;
  they married in 1931 and subsequently became the parents of eight
  children, Gloria, Alberteen, Charlene, Johnnie Mae, Luberda,
  Johnny, Betty, and Jeanie; and
         WHEREAS, A resident of San Antonio since 1944, Mrs. Patrick
  retired as a housekeeper from Fort Sam Houston; she is known for
  keeping her large family well fed, and her Sunday feasts, prepared
  from the week's leftovers, were affectionately dubbed "the stuff";
  today, she counts four generations of family members among her
  descendants; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed woman continues to enjoy the simple
  things of life, including ice cream, Almond Joy and Payday candy
  bars, biblical puzzles, gardenias and roses, and music; a charter
  member of St. Phillips Baptist Church, she stays abreast of her
  community through the church bulletin and the 10 o'clock news,
  which she watches faithfully every night; in addition, she is an
  enthusiastic fan of the San Antonio Spurs; and
         WHEREAS, Cordell Patrick is a source of great joy and
  inspiration to her many loved ones, and it is indeed a pleasure to
  pay tribute to this beloved matriarch for a century of life well
  lived; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Cordell Patrick on her 100th
  birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Patrick as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
