R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Association of Black Social Workers of Texas is |
|
|
celebrating its 38th Annual Meeting and Luncheon on February 14, |
|
|
2009; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Founded in 1970, ABSW Texas has disseminated |
|
|
information to improve the lives of Houston residents by hosting |
|
|
educational workshops and seminars, health fairs, and a radio talk |
|
|
show series; in addition, its members have actively benefited their |
|
|
fellow citizens by awarding scholarships, providing job search |
|
|
assistance, mentoring social work students, hosting a blood drive, |
|
|
and giving food and toys to families in need; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The organization has also served as an advocate for |
|
|
the African American community, presenting position papers on |
|
|
relevant issues and testifying at governmental hearings; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through its many programs and activities, ABSW Texas |
|
|
has made a profound and positive contribution to the Bayou City, and |
|
|
it is indeed a pleasure to commend the efforts of its members; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor the Association of Black Social Workers of |
|
|
Texas for its service to the Houston community and extend to its |
|
|
members sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable event; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
