R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Association of Black Social Workers of Texas is
  celebrating its 38th Annual Meeting and Luncheon on February 14,
  2009; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1970, ABSW Texas has disseminated
  information to improve the lives of Houston residents by hosting
  educational workshops and seminars, health fairs, and a radio talk
  show series; in addition, its members have actively benefited their
  fellow citizens by awarding scholarships, providing job search
  assistance, mentoring social work students, hosting a blood drive,
  and giving food and toys to families in need; and
         WHEREAS, The organization has also served as an advocate for
  the African American community, presenting position papers on
  relevant issues and testifying at governmental hearings; and
         WHEREAS, Through its many programs and activities, ABSW Texas
  has made a profound and positive contribution to the Bayou City, and
  it is indeed a pleasure to commend the efforts of its members; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the Association of Black Social Workers of
  Texas for its service to the Houston community and extend to its
  members sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable event;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
