R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of Texas SkillsUSA, an organization for
  students engaged in trade and industrial education, are visiting
  Austin on February 15 and 16, 2009; and
         WHEREAS, With roots in Texas dating back to 1948, Texas
  SkillsUSA currently serves nearly 15,500 student and professional
  members through more than 1,000 chapters in public, trade, and
  technical schools; a collaborative effort of educators,
  representatives of the private sector, and government, the
  organization integrates classroom and workplace training in order
  to provide a sound foundation for future success; and
         WHEREAS, Texas SkillsUSA seeks to develop students'
  leadership and interpersonal skills, encourage problem-solving
  ability and critical thinking, and instill solid work habits; the
  program further strives to foster a sense of civic responsibility
  and to enhance students' knowledge of government and the
  legislative process; and
         WHEREAS, Visiting the State Capitol today to embark on this
  important effort are four students from Weslaco High School, Letty
  Martinez, Larissa Castillo, Iris Cardona, and Elizabeth Toledo, and
  two students from Welsaco East High School, Marina Diaz and Kenneth
  Valenzuela; they are accompanied by their sponsors, educators
  Beverly Anzaldua and Joseph Calvillo; and
         WHEREAS, Texas SkillsUSA is playing a crucial role in
  developing the full range of knowledge and abilities needed by
  young Texans, and by participating in this outstanding
  organization, the members of this Weslaco delegation are on the
  road to a future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize February 16, 2009, as Texas SkillsUSA
  Day at the State Capitol and honor all those involved with this
  exceptional program for their efforts and hard work.
