R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The well-being of Texas communities depends in large
  measure on the involvement of public-spirited citizens, and Mary
  Alice Gonzalez of Sugar Land has long exemplified the dedication
  and ability that define the most respected civic leaders; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Gonzalez has been employed with Stewart Title
  since 1976, when she joined the company's office in Corpus Christi;
  four years later she moved to Houston, where she served as senior
  vice president and had responsibility for the Fine Properties
  Closing Division and human resources and training; and
         WHEREAS, In 1996, this dynamic businesswoman was appointed
  president of the Fort Bend branch of Stewart Title, and since 2001,
  she has also overseen the company's operations in Brazoria County;
  in addition, she serves on the senior management team of the Houston
  office; and
         WHEREAS, Committed to continually improving services and
  operations wherever possible, Ms. Gonzalez encourages her
  associates to adopt new technologies, and under her guidance, her
  offices were the first in their counties to e-record documents with
  the county clerks; she has been instrumental, moreover, in
  developing Stewart Title's Spanish-language website; and
         WHEREAS, Admired for her outstanding work in her community as
  well as for her stellar record in the business world, Ms. Gonzalez
  is an alumna of Leadership Texas and has served on the Chairman's
  Council of the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce and on the boards of
  directors of the Greater Fort Bend Economic Development Council,
  Fort Bend County Housing Finance Corporation, Oaks at Rio Bend,
  Stewart Title Credit Union, and Literacy Volunteers of Fort Bend
  County; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Gonzalez has also devoted her energy and
  expertise to such organizations as the Region H Water Planning
  Group, Houston Association of Realtors, Greater Houston Builders
  Association, Fort Bend Women's Council of Realtors, and National
  Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals; and
         WHEREAS, An inspiring role model for professional
  achievement and effective civic engagement, Mary Alice Gonzalez has
  won the high esteem of colleagues and fellow citizens alike, and it
  is indeed a privilege to recognize this distinguished Texan; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Mary Alice Gonzalez on her many
  contributions to her community and extend to her sincere best
  wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Gonzalez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
