R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of the Leadership Southwest Class of 2009
  are visiting the State Capitol on February 18, 2009, to gain further
  insight into the workings of state government; and
         WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Duncanville,
  Lancaster, and Oak Cliff Chambers of Commerce, Leadership Southwest
  was established in 1985 with 23 participants; since that time, more
  than 800 area residents have completed the program, and many have
  gone on to serve on city councils, boards of local chambers,
  schools, hospitals, and economic development and planning and
  zoning committees; some graduates have also sought to serve their
  community through elected offices; and
         WHEREAS, Leadership Southwest provides opportunities for
  participants to increase their knowledge of vital public issues and
  to visit with the leaders who are making decisions that affect their
  communities; and
         WHEREAS, Classes inspire the spirit of activism and provide a
  diverse membership with personal leadership training, networking
  opportunities, and instruction from knowledgeable figures from
  both the public and private sectors; and
         WHEREAS, Through its efforts to build a more informed and
  involved citizenry and to develop new leaders, Leadership Southwest
  is helping to create a brighter and more promising future for the
  Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize February 18, 2009, as Leadership
  Southwest Class of 2009 Day at the State Capitol and extend to all
  its participants sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Leadership Southwest as an expression of high regard
  by the Texas House of Representatives.
