R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Members of the Leadership Southwest Class of 2009 |
|
are visiting the State Capitol on February 18, 2009, to gain further |
|
insight into the workings of state government; and |
|
WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Duncanville, |
|
Lancaster, and Oak Cliff Chambers of Commerce, Leadership Southwest |
|
was established in 1985 with 23 participants; since that time, more |
|
than 800 area residents have completed the program, and many have |
|
gone on to serve on city councils, boards of local chambers, |
|
schools, hospitals, and economic development and planning and |
|
zoning committees; some graduates have also sought to serve their |
|
community through elected offices; and |
|
WHEREAS, Leadership Southwest provides opportunities for |
|
participants to increase their knowledge of vital public issues and |
|
to visit with the leaders who are making decisions that affect their |
|
communities; and |
|
WHEREAS, Classes inspire the spirit of activism and provide a |
|
diverse membership with personal leadership training, networking |
|
opportunities, and instruction from knowledgeable figures from |
|
both the public and private sectors; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through its efforts to build a more informed and |
|
involved citizenry and to develop new leaders, Leadership Southwest |
|
is helping to create a brighter and more promising future for the |
|
Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize February 18, 2009, as Leadership |
|
Southwest Class of 2009 Day at the State Capitol and extend to all |
|
its participants sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Leadership Southwest as an expression of high regard |
|
by the Texas House of Representatives. |
