R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Texas Alliance of Black School Educators is
  hosting its 24th annual conference March 12-15, 2009, in Houston;
  and
         WHEREAS, Affiliated with the National Alliance of Black
  School Educators, TABSE was established in Austin in 1986 and is
  committed to improving the educational achievement of African
  American students by identifying and responding to their particular
  needs; the organization also seeks to promote education overall, to
  form a strong coalition of educators, and to create a forum for the
  exchange of ideas on increasing opportunities for minority
  students; members work together to help facilitate a nurturing
  classroom environment for African American students and to ensure
  that they receive equitable and high-quality education; and
         WHEREAS, This year's conference is focused on the theme
  "Education is a Civil Right," and it is open to alliance members, as
  well as supporters, parents, school board trustees, retired
  educators, counselors, and college students; participants will
  examine issues of importance to both public and private school
  educators, including the role of fine arts in the classroom, the
  relationship between home and school, standardized testing,
  education in the 21st century, and motivation; they will also
  discuss such professional concerns as retirement trends and
  aspiring teachers' and principals' academies and will have the
  opportunity to attend a variety of workshops and symposiums; and
         WHEREAS, TABSE members are dedicated to building a solid
  academic foundation for their students, and their collective
  efforts have enhanced the lives of countless young Texans and
  benefited schools across the state; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 2009 conference of the Texas
  Alliance of Black School Educators and extend to all those
  associated with the organization sincere best wishes for a
  successful and memorable event; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for TABSE as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
