R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Texas Alliance of Black School Educators is |
|
hosting its 24th annual conference March 12-15, 2009, in Houston; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Affiliated with the National Alliance of Black |
|
School Educators, TABSE was established in Austin in 1986 and is |
|
committed to improving the educational achievement of African |
|
American students by identifying and responding to their particular |
|
needs; the organization also seeks to promote education overall, to |
|
form a strong coalition of educators, and to create a forum for the |
|
exchange of ideas on increasing opportunities for minority |
|
students; members work together to help facilitate a nurturing |
|
classroom environment for African American students and to ensure |
|
that they receive equitable and high-quality education; and |
|
WHEREAS, This year's conference is focused on the theme |
|
"Education is a Civil Right," and it is open to alliance members, as |
|
well as supporters, parents, school board trustees, retired |
|
educators, counselors, and college students; participants will |
|
examine issues of importance to both public and private school |
|
educators, including the role of fine arts in the classroom, the |
|
relationship between home and school, standardized testing, |
|
education in the 21st century, and motivation; they will also |
|
discuss such professional concerns as retirement trends and |
|
aspiring teachers' and principals' academies and will have the |
|
opportunity to attend a variety of workshops and symposiums; and |
|
WHEREAS, TABSE members are dedicated to building a solid |
|
academic foundation for their students, and their collective |
|
efforts have enhanced the lives of countless young Texans and |
|
benefited schools across the state; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 2009 conference of the Texas |
|
Alliance of Black School Educators and extend to all those |
|
associated with the organization sincere best wishes for a |
|
successful and memorable event; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for TABSE as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
