R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, On February 20, 2009, members of the Association of
  Public Administrators at The University of Texas-Pan American are
  furthering their studies of public sector management by attending
  the 10th annual Texas American Society for Public Administration
  and Texas Certified Public Manager Conference in Round Rock; and
         WHEREAS, The APA chapter was established at The University of
  Texas-Pan American in the fall of 2003 to enhance the knowledge and
  administrative skills of graduate students in the UTPA master of
  public administration program, which provides professional
  preparation for public service in governmental agencies at the
  federal, state, regional, and local levels, as well as in
  not-for-profit agencies; in addition, the association serves to
  link MPA students with Rio Grande Valley communities and to raise
  awareness of resources available to communities through the MPA
  program; and
         WHEREAS, Attending the ASPA/CPM conference as a group for the
  first time, APA members will have opportunities for career
  development and networking, and to hear such speakers as State
  Senator Rodney Ellis and former lieutenant governor William P.
  Hobby; past APA activities have included a legislative public
  policy forum with state representatives, and the group also
  sponsored a recent campus visit by former president Bill Clinton;
  and
         WHEREAS, Public service is a high calling, and the members of
  the Association of Public Administrators at The University of
  Texas-Pan American are building a solid foundation from which to
  launch meaningful and productive careers in government; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature commend the members of the Association of Public
  Administrators at The University of Texas-Pan American for their
  dedication to the field of public administration and extend best
  wishes for a memorable experience at the 2009 Texas ASPA/CPM
  Conference; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the association as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
