R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Sharon Rhoads has been named the 2008 Volunteer of
  the Year by the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of the past four decades, Mrs.
  Rhoads has lent her hand to a host of positive endeavors; the former
  Katy Independent School District art teacher demonstrates the craft
  of making corn husk dolls at the district's annual folk life
  festival, sketches the "run-through" signs for the Katy High School
  Tiger football team, and has often chaired the school district art
  show; on Fridays, she is a reliable presence at Rhoads Elementary
  School, which was named for Mrs. Rhoads and her late husband, Jack,
  and the building's entrance boasts a mural that she painted; and
         WHEREAS, The Keep Katy Beautiful initiative benefits from the
  work of this energetic individual; as part of that effort, Mrs.
  Rhoads has planted flowers at the Adopt-A-Spot sponsored by Beta
  Sigma Phi as well as at the MKT Depot Visitors Center, and she
  participated in the Don't Mess with Texas Trash-Off; in addition,
  she assists at the rehabilitation center at Memorial Hermann Katy
  Hospital and contributes to the programs of the Delta Kappa Gamma
  Society International, an honor society for female educators; and
         WHEREAS, A congregant at First United Methodist Church, Mrs.
  Rhoads has also been a member of the Katy FFA rodeo parade committee
  since the 1970s, and she drives people to medical appointments and
  provides water for city workers whose jobs keep them outside in the
  harsh summer heat; and
         WHEREAS, By generously sharing her time and talents, Sharon
  Rhoads has greatly benefited her community, and it is indeed
  fitting to pay tribute to her unwavering commitment to serving
  others; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Sharon Rhoads for receiving the
  2008 Volunteer of the Year Award from the Katy Area Chamber of
  Commerce and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
  success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Rhoads as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
