R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Chick-fil-A has received the 2008 Business of the
  Year Award from the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce; and
         WHEREAS, In 1995, 23-year-old Rusty Wylie opened the first
  Chick-fil-A franchise in Katy and attained nearly $1 million in
  sales during his first year; he later added a second restaurant and
  has earned the esteemed Chick-fil-A Symbol of Success sales award
  four times; and
         WHEREAS, Providing exceptional service to area residents and
  generously supporting local organizations, the Katy Chick-fil-A
  locations carry forth the company's goal of making a positive
  impact in each community it serves; through the years, Mr. Wylie has
  employed 800 teens in his businesses, three of whom now teach in the
  Katy ISD; and
         WHEREAS, Beneficiaries of the company's philanthropy include
  Katy Christian Ministries, local schools, the Pregnancy Help Center
  of West Houston, Young Life Katy Area, Student Venture, and
  Carrie's Heart; moreover, national charities such as the March of
  Dimes, MADD, D.A.R.E., the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation,
  and the American Heart Association Jump Rope for Heart program have
  also received support from Mr. Wylie's franchises; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to providing the Chick-fil-A Leadership
  Scholarship to 45 Katy ISD students, the company provides
  curriculum programs for several elementary schools and has
  collaborated with area churches for special events; and
         WHEREAS, Since joining the Katy business community more than
  a decade ago, Chick-fil-A has established itself as a solid
  corporate citizen and benefactor, and it truly merits this latest
  accolade; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Chick-fil-A on being named the 2008
  Business of the Year by the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce and extend
  sincere best wishes to Rusty Wylie and his staff for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Chick-fil-A as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
