R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Parent Teacher Association are
  gathering at the State Capitol on February 26, 2009; and
         WHEREAS, This year marks 100 years of service by the group,
  whose members share a common goal to provide the best possible
  education for Texas youths; to that end, the organization
  diligently works to promote a positive environment in the home,
  school, and community, secure adequate laws for the care and
  protection of children, and forge a closer relationship between the
  home and school; and
         WHEREAS, The group's more than 630,000 members consist of
  parents, educators, and other concerned citizens from around the
  state who together make up the largest child-advocacy organization
  in Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1909, the Texas PTA is organized into 18
  geographic areas, 93 councils, and more than 2,600 local campus
  groups; local PTAs meet, study problems, support teachers, and
  attend parenting workshops, and by becoming more informed on issues
  regarding children and education, members become more effective
  teachers and parents and more engaged citizens; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout the last century, the Texas PTA has
  worked to improve educational opportunities for all Texas children,
  and their efforts have greatly benefited the Lone Star State; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize February 26, 2009, as Texas Parent
  Teacher Association Day at the State Capitol and extend to all those
  in attendance sincere best wishes for a memorable 100th anniversary
  celebration; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
