R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Honorable George N. Bowers, who has held the
  office of mayor of Tenaha for more than 52 years, has compiled an
  exceptional record of public service; and
         WHEREAS, Born in 1928, Mr. Bowers graduated from Center High
  School in 1946; he subsequently joined the U.S. Army and served with
  the 7th Infantry Division during the Korean War; and
         WHEREAS, In his capacity as mayor, this esteemed Texan has
  played a vital role in the improvement of the city's
  infrastructure, overseeing the paving of streets, the digging of
  more water wells, and the construction of a wastewater treatment
  plant; he has also helped to upgrade the fire and police
  departments; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Bowers has been active in the community as a
  member of the Tenaha Businessmen's Club, as a commander of the
  American Legion, and as a charter member of the Tenaha Lions Club
  and the local chapter of the AARP; he is a lay leader of the First
  United Methodist Church, and he currently serves as a director of
  Citizens State Bank and as a member of the governor's Regional
  Review Committee for grants; Mayor Bowers has been recognized by
  the Tenaha Independent School District Hall of Honor, the Masons,
  the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, and the 100 Men of East
  Texas; and
         WHEREAS, George Bowers and his wife, Laura, are the proud
  parents of two children, Theresa Latham and George Bowers, Jr., and
  they have delighted in welcoming into their family five
  grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, For more than five decades, Mayor Bowers has
  dedicated himself to promoting the welfare and prosperity of
  Tenaha, and it is indeed a pleasure to recognize the contributions
  of this outstanding civic leader; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable George N. Bowers on
  providing more than 52 years of service to Tenaha and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mayor Bowers as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
