R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Elizabeth Marie Walterscheid of Hereford is
  commemorating her 100th birthday on February 24, 2009, and this
  memorable milestone is truly worthy of special recognition; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Lindsay to Lena and Charles Loerwald,
  Elizabeth Marie Loerwald attended the local Catholic school; in her
  hometown, German was the predominant language spoken, but she was
  also fluent in English by the age of five; and
         WHEREAS, Liz Loerwald met Frank Walterscheid at a dance in
  nearby Muenster, and the couple were married on April 10, 1929, at a
  ceremony held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lindsay; the two
  were avid square dancers for many years and shared nearly six
  decades together before Mr. Walterscheid passed away; and
         WHEREAS, In 1943, the couple bought a farm a few miles north
  of Hereford, where they lived with their family until 1961; at that
  time, they moved into a home on Douglas Street in Hereford, where
  Mrs. Walterscheid still resides today; and
         WHEREAS, She is the loving mother of nine children, Vincent,
  Leonard, Kenneth, Larry, Betty, Doris, Jeanette, and the late Alvin
  and Richard; Mrs. Walterscheid delights in spending time with her
  family, which has grown to include 31 grandchildren, 55
  great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, A member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in
  Hereford, she has devoted many hours to the activities of the altar
  society; throughout her life, she has been a respected seamstress,
  working at two sewing factories and creating beautiful quilts on
  her own time that have become very popular items at family reunion
  auctions; Mrs. Walterscheid also takes pleasure in games of cards
  and dominoes; and
         WHEREAS, Blessed with a devoted family and admiring friends,
  Liz Walterscheid remains a source of joy and inspiration to all who
  have the great privilege of knowing her, and she may reflect with
  pride on a century of life well lived; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Elizabeth Marie Walterscheid on
  the occasion of her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best
  wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Walterscheid as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
