R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, More than 400 motorcyclists in Southeast Texas have
come together as the Brazoria County Cavalry to show their support
for servicemen and servicewomen, veterans, police officers,
firefighters, and emergency medical services personnel; and
WHEREAS, Demonstrating the utmost respect and gratitude
toward those in military and public service, cavalry members turn
out in force to provide memorable escorts for occasions both joyful
and sorrowful; roaring up on their bikes, sounding their sirens,
and waving the Stars and Stripes, they welcome home soldiers on
leave from Iraq and Afghanistan; these motorcyclists also accompany
mourners and line the streets with American flags for the funerals
of our fallen heroes, showing grieving families that they are not
  alone in their sorrow; and
WHEREAS, The men and women of this noteworthy group are
  always ready to stand up for those who stand up for our country;
cavalry members, including civilians and veterans alike, left their
own damaged homes after Hurricane Ike to help repair and rebuild a
fence in Angleton decorated with thousands of homemade crosses
representing each soldier killed in Iraq and Afghanistan; moreover,
they have made themselves available at a moment's notice to assist
families in need and to participate in special ceremonies, giving
generously of their time and exemplifying the caring spirit of
  Brazoria County; and
WHEREAS, Through their dedication, the riders of the Brazoria
County Cavalry have brought comfort to numerous families and set a
high standard of fitting recognition for those who protect and
serve our country and its citizens; now, therefore, be it
