R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Junior League of Midland is marking its 60th |
|
|
year of providing exemplary educational and charitable services to |
|
|
residents of the Permian Basin; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1949 by 28 charter members, the |
|
|
Junior League of Midland is an organization of women committed to |
|
|
improving their community through the effective action and |
|
|
leadership of trained volunteers; members affirm the group's motto |
|
|
of "Hand in Hand, We Build a Better Midland" by contributing to the |
|
|
health, welfare, and cultural environment of their community; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, the Junior League has established |
|
|
such important initiatives as a free dental clinic and an emergency |
|
|
shelter for abused and neglected children; it currently sponsors |
|
|
programs that teach children the importance of good nutrition, |
|
|
emphasize self-esteem in adolescent girls, provide families with |
|
|
information about parenting skills, finances, and health, offer |
|
|
scholarship information to high school students, and prepare women |
|
|
for the workplace; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For the past six decades, countless area residents |
|
|
have benefited from the Junior League's generous contributions to a |
|
|
wide array of programs and services that enrich the community; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor the Junior League of Midland on the |
|
|
occasion of its 60th anniversary and extend to all those associated |
|
|
with this fine organization best wishes for continued success with |
|
|
their important work; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the Junior League as an expression of high regard by |
|
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
