R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Lloyd Jefferson Roberts, Jr., of Edinburg, an
  admired community leader and exemplary businessman, passed away on
  March 8, 2008, at the age of 91; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Tyler in 1916, "Bob" Roberts graduated from
  Edinburg public schools and Edinburg Junior College before earning
  a bachelor of business administration degree from The University of
  Texas at Austin; he went on to serve his country as a member of the
  U.S. Army during World War II, attaining the rank of major, and he
  later served as a member of both the U.S. Army Cavalry and the
  Adjutant Generals Corps; and
         WHEREAS, In 1947, Mr. Roberts went to work as general manager
  of his family's car dealership, the Standard Motor Company, which
  he later renamed Roberts Chevrolet; through the years, he was known
  as a fair and friendly businessman whose employees remained with
  him for decades, and he had the pleasure of working alongside
  several family members, including his brother, Harry; he was
  honored in 1997 as a 50-year Chevrolet dealer by the Texas
  Automobile Dealers Association and retired some years later at the
  age of 85; and
         WHEREAS, Devoted to his community, this esteemed Texan
  further distinguished himself through his leadership in the
  Edinburg Kiwanis Club, the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce, and the
  Rio Grande Council of the Boy Scouts of America; in addition, he
  shared his expertise with the urban renewal board of Edinburg, the
  board of the Hidalgo County Road District, and the board of Hidalgo
  Savings and Loan, which he served for nearly two decades; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Roberts counted among his favorite pastimes
  hunting, fishing, traveling, gardening, photography, and
  astronomy, and he enjoyed music ranging from opera to country;
  moreover, he was passionate about the landscape of South Texas and
  delighted in taking long drives in the country; in all of his
  endeavors, he was supported by his wife, Jo, with whom he shared
  more than half a century; and
         WHEREAS, Bob Roberts was a man of character, generosity, and
  enthusiasm who made a lasting and positive difference to the
  Edinburg community and to a wide circle of family, friends,
  associates, and employees, and he will be remembered with great
  affection and admiration by all those whose lives he touched; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lloyd Jefferson "Bob"
  Roberts, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
  family: to his wife, Jo Lynge Roberts; to his daughter, Cynthia
  Roberts; to his sons, Kip Roberts and Mitchell Roberts and his wife,
  Paula; to his granddaughters, Jenna and Lana Roberts; to his
  brother, Harry Roberts; to his brother-in-law, Ed Lynge and his
  wife, Jane; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lloyd
  Jefferson "Bob" Roberts, Jr.
