R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, High school students across the nation develop
  greater discipline, personal responsibility, and a sense of
  accomplishment through their involvement in the Army Junior Reserve
  Officers' Training Corps, and the cadets of the Junior ROTC program
  at John F. Kennedy High School in San Antonio are successfully
  upholding this notable organization's worthy ideals; and
         WHEREAS, Under the inspirational leadership of retired army
  personnel First Sergeant Arturo Arce, Sergeant Major Harry Greene,
  and Major Dale Volley, the members of the JFK High School Junior
  ROTC have dedicated themselves to contributing to the betterment of
  their community; and
         WHEREAS, These outstanding young people participate in the
  annual Toys for Tots program, staging a fund-raiser every November
  to provide gifts for students at a local elementary school; the
  cadets also volunteer for the annual Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving
  Dinner, and they present the colors every year at the Veterans Day
  ceremony at the Good Samaritan Center; and
         WHEREAS, On January 28, 2009, the JFK High School Junior ROTC
  Emerald Guard passed its formal inspection and earned the status of
  Honor Unit with Distinction; one of the highest awards possible for
  a JROTC unit, the designation entitles the unit's cadets to wear
  gold stars above their name tags as a mark of exceptional
  performance; and
         WHEREAS, There is no higher calling than duty to one's
  community and nation, and the cadets of the John F. Kennedy High
  School Junior ROTC may take great pride in all that they have
  accomplished; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the cadets of the John F. Kennedy
  Army Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps on their achievements
  and contributions and extend to them sincere best wishes for a
  bright future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the JFK High School JROTC as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
