R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Texas State Trooper Todd Dylan Holmes of Gilmer was
  killed in the line of duty on March 14, 2007, at the age of 29, and
  his untimely death was a tragic loss to his family, to his fellow
  peace officers, and to the residents of his community; and
         WHEREAS, Todd Holmes was born on September 29, 1977, in
  Plainview; he served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy from
  1996 until 2000; following his discharge, he worked as a jailer with
  the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Department before his acceptance
  into the Department of Public Safety training academy in 2005; and
         WHEREAS, Married to Stephanie Dawn Pirtle since October 21,
  2000, Trooper Holmes was committed to his family and to his faith;
  he enjoyed spending time with his children and volunteering at
  Gilmer Church of Christ, where he was a valued member; and
         WHEREAS, This courageous Texan exemplified the highest
  standards of his profession, and he will long be remembered for his
  profound dedication to public service and his tireless efforts in
  behalf of his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Texas State Trooper
  Todd Dylan Holmes and extend sincere sympathy to his many loved
  ones; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of State
  Trooper Todd Holmes.
