R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A 50th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of love
  and shared experiences, and Norris and Martha Barnard of Houston
  celebrated this joyous milestone in their marriage on May 31, 2008;
  and
         WHEREAS, Norris Barnard and the former Martha Faires met on a
  blind date while attending East Texas State University and were
  joined in matrimony in 1958 at a ceremony held at the First Baptist
  Church in Gilmer; through the years, they have been blessed with a
  treasured family that includes two daughters, Cindy Guerrero and
  Ginger Hollien, a son-in-law, Gary Hollien, and a granddaughter,
  Caroline; and
         WHEREAS, Respected members of their community, Mr. Barnard is
  retired after 26 years with the Kroger Company and a notable tenure
  with American General Life Insurance Company and Mrs. Barnard is a
  retired English and speech teacher; in addition to meeting their
  work and family responsibilities, they have been active in their
  neighborhood association and are valued members of White Oak
  Baptist Church; and
         WHEREAS, This devoted couple have enjoyed half a century of
  abiding love and affection for one another, and they are among an
  exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a lasting
  commitment; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Norris and Martha Barnard on their 50th
  wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for
  continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Barnard as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
