R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The 62nd Southwest Regional Conference of Iota Phi
  Lambda Sorority is taking place in Houston on March 12-16, 2009; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1929 by Lola M. Parker, Iota Phi Lambda is
  a national business and professional sorority with more than 100
  chapters located throughout 85 U.S. cities and the Virgin Islands;
  and
         WHEREAS, Members work to enhance and improve the status of
  women in business, as well as to promote increased interest in
  business education among young women through programs and
  scholarships; moreover, the group provides educational, civic, and
  social service opportunities for people of all ages; and
         WHEREAS, Each year, the sorority sponsors a variety of
  events, including Business Month, Black History Month, American
  Education Week, and the Future Iota Leaders program, which offers
  educational and cultural opportunities to young people; included
  among its many national projects are Career Exploration, Iota
  Mothers Career Assistance Program, and the teen pregnancy
  prevention program, Toys "U" Can't Return; and
         WHEREAS, Together, the members of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority
  have helped to better the lives of countless Texans, and in so
  doing, they have set a sterling example of leadership and community
  service to which all may aspire; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 62nd Southwest Regional
  Conference of the Iota Phi Lambda Sorority and extend to all those
  involved sincere best wishes for a meaningful and productive event.
