R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The 62nd Southwest Regional Conference of Iota Phi |
|
|
Lambda Sorority is taking place in Houston on March 12-16, 2009; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Founded in 1929 by Lola M. Parker, Iota Phi Lambda is |
|
|
a national business and professional sorority with more than 100 |
|
|
chapters located throughout 85 U.S. cities and the Virgin Islands; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Members work to enhance and improve the status of |
|
|
women in business, as well as to promote increased interest in |
|
|
business education among young women through programs and |
|
|
scholarships; moreover, the group provides educational, civic, and |
|
|
social service opportunities for people of all ages; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Each year, the sorority sponsors a variety of |
|
|
events, including Business Month, Black History Month, American |
|
|
Education Week, and the Future Iota Leaders program, which offers |
|
|
educational and cultural opportunities to young people; included |
|
|
among its many national projects are Career Exploration, Iota |
|
|
Mothers Career Assistance Program, and the teen pregnancy |
|
|
prevention program, Toys "U" Can't Return; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Together, the members of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority |
|
|
have helped to better the lives of countless Texans, and in so |
|
|
doing, they have set a sterling example of leadership and community |
|
|
service to which all may aspire; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 62nd Southwest Regional |
|
|
Conference of the Iota Phi Lambda Sorority and extend to all those |
|
|
involved sincere best wishes for a meaningful and productive event. |
