R E S O L U T I O N

Barber Shop and Styling Salon has been a popular local landmark in
  Baytown; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1948 by Jimmie Carpenter, the business
was originally known as Jimmie's Barber Shop and featured two
chairs and haircuts for a dollar; Mr. Carpenter was also an avid
hunter, and when his wife forbade him to keep accumulating trophies
at home, he started to display them in his barbershop; and
WHEREAS, In 1962, Mr. Carpenter renamed the shop Trophy
Barber Shop and Styling Salon and moved it to a larger space two
doors down from its original location; today, under its current
owner, Randall Ashby, the shop boasts eight chairs, five barbers,
good prices, and a remarkable collection of trophies; and
WHEREAS, Collected during Mr. Carpenter's hunting trips
  during the 1950s and 1960s, the shop's trophies include a six-foot
alligator, a baboon, and the mounted heads of deer, elk, and a Cape
buffalo; a 12-foot polar bear stands on its hind legs just inside
the door, and the ceiling is lined with 750 sets of antlers; and
WHEREAS, This picturesque barbershop has become a
longstanding tradition in Baytown, with many of its barbers working
there for years, cutting the hair of fifth-generation descendents
of the shop's original customers; the shop's fame has spread beyond
Baytown, and it has been featured in magazine and newspaper
articles and was the subject of an award-winning honors thesis by
Lee College student Elizabeth Courtlandt Stockett; and
WHEREAS, The unique charm of this small business has
delighted residents and visitors to Baytown for more than six
decades, and Mr. Ashby and his staff may take great pride in their
careful and affectionate stewardship of this beloved Lone Star
  institution; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby honor the Trophy Barber Shop and Styling Salon
for its colorful contribution to the heritage of Texas and extend to
its owner and staff best wishes for continued success; and, be it
  further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
