R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of the La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce
  are visiting the State Capitol on March 12, 2009, and this occasion
  is a fitting opportunity to pay tribute to this fine organization
  and the Galveston Bay community that it represents; and
         WHEREAS, Located in southeastern Harris County, the La
  Porte-Bayshore area combines a rich Texas heritage with the natural
  appeal of Sylvan Beach Park and is known as the gateway to Galveston
  Bay; and
         WHEREAS, The La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce leads the
  way in actively supporting the area's businesses, promoting
  tourism, developing a coordinated strategy for economic
  development, and keeping chamber members informed on legislative
  and government actions that impact the community; and
         WHEREAS, The chamber sponsors the popular Sylvan Beach
  Festival and Crawfish Jam each year, which features a carnival, a
  parade, a pageant, a cook-off, and live entertainment; the
  organization also oversees the annual Salute to Industry event, the
  Partners in Education program, and the Leadership La Porte training
  program for the next generation of community leaders; and
         WHEREAS, Despite the recent challenges of Hurricane Ike, the
  La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce continues to foster
  development and growth, working hard to ensure a bright future for
  this unique Texas community and its residents; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commend the La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of
  Commerce for its civic contributions and extend to its visiting
  members a warm welcome to the State Capitol; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the chamber as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
