R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, "On the Road Again Seniors" from Southeast Harris |
|
County are visiting the Capitol on March 10, 2009, providing a |
|
welcome opportunity to pay tribute to these remarkable men and |
|
women; and |
|
WHEREAS, Founded some 20 years ago, On the Road Again Seniors |
|
pay homage to country-and-western musician Willie Nelson by "going |
|
places that they've never been"; the group has traveled countless |
|
miles across the state, stopping in cities large and small to attend |
|
operas and plays and visit state parks and museums; in addition, |
|
members enjoy monthly meetings and annual Christmas celebrations; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Senior citizens play a significant role in the Lone |
|
Star State; through the decades, they have helped Texas to achieve |
|
greatness in a broad range of fields, including industry, the arts, |
|
agriculture, education, information technology, space exploration, |
|
and more; and |
|
WHEREAS, Witnesses to monumental events during their |
|
lifetimes, many residents age 60 and older have served their nation |
|
in times of war, and they have also helped to maintain peace in |
|
postings around the globe; and |
|
WHEREAS, The experience and wisdom gained by senior Texans |
|
make them revered mentors and role models to younger generations; |
|
among the lessons taught by On the Road Again Seniors is the value |
|
of leading an active and healthy life well into the golden years, |
|
and the group's ongoing achievements set an inspiring example to |
|
which all may aspire; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize March 10, 2009, as "On the Road Again |
|
Seniors" Day at the State Capitol and extend to all participants |
|
best wishes for an enjoyable and rewarding visit to Austin. |
