R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature is pleased to recognize the Boys & Girls Clubs from |
|
|
across the state for the valuable contribution they make to the |
|
|
young people of this state; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Boys & Girls Clubs provide services to more than |
|
|
418,000 school-aged children in 172 cities in Texas, with the goal |
|
|
of inspiring all young people, especially those who need |
|
|
inspiration most, to realize their full potential as productive, |
|
|
responsible, and caring citizens; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Evidence-based and proven effective, the |
|
|
development programs of the Boys & Girls Clubs stress character and |
|
|
leadership development, education and career advancement, and |
|
|
health and life skills; the clubs also encourage an appreciation of |
|
|
the arts and provide programs in sports, fitness, and recreation; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, These programs promote healthier self-images among |
|
|
young people, as well as improved educational, emotional, and |
|
|
cultural awareness; they also encourage community involvement, |
|
|
strong moral values, and enhanced life-management skills; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, On March 10, 2009, one of eight finalists will be |
|
|
chosen as Texas State Youth of the Year, and he or she will |
|
|
represent Texas in the National Youth of the Year competition |
|
|
sponsored by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, Boys & Girls Clubs have helped |
|
|
countless young men and women across the Lone Star State to aspire |
|
|
to the highest level of personal development and to become good |
|
|
citizens of their communities; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commend the Boys & Girls Clubs in Texas for the |
|
|
outstanding services and programs they provide in behalf of the |
|
|
state's young people and their families and extend to all involved |
|
|
with the organizations sincere best wishes for continued success. |
