R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, March 2, 2009, commemorated the 105th anniversary of |
|
the birth of Dr. Seuss, and the students of Sunrise McMillan |
|
Elementary School in Fort Worth celebrated this occasion by taking |
|
part in Read Across America Day; and |
|
WHEREAS, Sponsored by the National Education Association, |
|
this annual event is designed to encourage children of all ages to |
|
read; by using the works of Dr. Seuss as a focal point, it sends a |
|
clear message to the children that reading is not only fun but vital |
|
to their success in school; and |
|
WHEREAS, Read Across America Day features the participation |
|
of millions of children, parents, teachers, community leaders, and |
|
noted celebrities from across the land, and is supported by some 40 |
|
national organizations and associations; and |
|
WHEREAS, Many students of Sunrise McMillan took part in this |
|
celebration of the written word, which is not only a fitting tribute |
|
to the beloved Dr. Seuss, but also an excellent opportunity to |
|
instill a passion for reading in these future leaders of the Lone |
|
Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the Read Across America celebration |
|
of Dr. Seuss's 105th birthday at Sunrise McMillan Elementary School |
|
and extend to all those in attendance sincere best wishes for a |
|
memorable event; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
