R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The boys' basketball team from Santa Rosa High
  School is competing in the University Interscholastic League state
  championship tournament in Austin in March 2009, where the Warriors
  are contending for the 2A title; and
         WHEREAS, This year marks just the second time that a Santa
  Rosa team has appeared in the state finals, the first having taken
  place in 1965; a source of great excitement for their classmates and
  their countless community supporters, the Warriors have
  established a 30-6 record this season and earned a place among the
  finest 2A squads in Texas; and
         WHEREAS, The team qualified for the state tournament with a
  thrilling 63-62 victory in the regional final game against Randolph
  High School on March 7; demonstrating the never-say-die spirit that
  has marked the squad's play all year long, Santa Rosa tied the game
  at the end of regulation with a three-point basket as time expired,
  then knocked down the winning shot with just four seconds remaining
  in overtime to seize the victory; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout the season, the Warriors team has
  received exceptional contributions from each of its members: Ivan
  Martinez, Ruben Lopez, Danny Theys, Jacob Garcia, Rick Cavazos,
  Dario Mendoza, Cris Diaz, Ignacio Serrato, Aaron Ramirez, Mark
  Cordero, and Jesus Mosqueta; and
         WHEREAS, These determined athletes are guided by head coach
  Johnny Cipriano and assistant coaches Omar Guerra and Juan Esparza;
  in addition, the team receives vital support from athletic director
  Joshua Gonzales and from sport managers Rudy Zamarripa, Joshua
  Flores, David Perez, and Tyisha Cipriano; and
         WHEREAS, An inspiring team that possesses great talent and
  tremendous heart, the Santa Rosa Warriors are proudly representing
  their South Texas community in the ultimate showcase for Texas high
  school basketball, and they may take justifiable pride in their
  outstanding achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the boys' basketball team from
  Santa Rosa High School on its appearance in the 2009 UIL state
  championship tournament and extend to its players, coaches, and
  staff best wishes for success as they battle for the 2A title; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
