R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, LULAC Council No. 272 in Dallas is marking its 75th
  anniversary in February 2009, and this occasion provides a fitting
  opportunity to pay tribute to this noteworthy organization; and
         WHEREAS, Established in 1934, Council No. 272 is the oldest
  LULAC chapter in North Texas and was founded just five years after
  the league first came into being; throughout its history, the
  Dallas chapter has carried out LULAC's mission of creating
  community-based programs to advance the economic well-being,
  education, political influence, health, and civil rights of
  Hispanic Americans; and
         WHEREAS, A number of gifted leaders have helped guide Council
  No. 272 since its inception, including the late Teofilo Espinoza,
  who sparked the chapter's resurgence in the 1970s; today, the
  chapter is ably led by its president, Angeles Ramos; and
         WHEREAS, LULAC has long been a strong supporter of increased
  educational opportunities for Hispanic Americans; the organization
  provides more than a million dollars in scholarships to students
  throughout the United States each year, and Council No. 272 plays a
  big part in this effort; and
         WHEREAS, An important and effective organization with a
  remarkable history, LULAC Council No. 272 has spent many decades
  aiding the Hispanic citizens of North Texas, and its worthwhile
  efforts have been of great benefit to the Lone Star State; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate LULAC Council No. 272 on the 75th
  anniversary of its founding and extend best wishes to its members
  for continued success with its many worthy endeavors; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the chapter as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
