R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends of Center resident Gene Borders
  were deeply saddened by his passing on August 19, 2008, at the age
  of 66; and
         WHEREAS, Gene Borders was born in Port Arthur on February 17,
  1942, to A. E. and Susie Dearing Borders; he enjoyed a rewarding
  marriage with his wife, Christene, and was a loving father to his
  daughters, Gena Porterfield, Delicia Eaves, Christy Mills, and the
  late Cheree Borders Smith; and
         WHEREAS, A successful entrepreneur, Mr. Borders operated the
  timber business A Borders Enterprise; he shared his time with a
  number of professional organizations, serving on the board of the
  Texas Forestry Association and as a charter member and chair of the
  Texas Logging Council; his dedicated efforts to defend private
  property rights earned him the title of TLC 2006 Political Activist
  of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Borders was also a valued member of the First
  United Pentecostal Church in Center, where he served his
  congregation as a trustee and board member; and
         WHEREAS, Gene Borders lived a caring and purposeful life, and
  he leaves behind memories that will be forever treasured by those
  fortunate enough to share in his love and affection; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Gene Borders and
  extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
  Christene Borders; to his daughters, Gena Porterfield and her
  husband, Danny, Delicia Eaves and her husband, Larry Joe, and
  Christy Mills and her husband, Ronnie; to his grandchildren, Rece
  Porterfield, Rena Horton and her husband, Brian, Blake Smith, Jasa
  Rodgers, Caleb McDonald, and Joshua McDonald; to his
  great-grandson, Keithan Brice Horton; to his brothers, Ronnie and
  Donnie Borders; to his son-in-law, Charles Smith, and his wife,
  Holly; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Gene
  Borders.
