R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Former police chief Larry Zacharias was named |
|
Citizen of the Year by the Richardson Chamber of Commerce at the |
|
organization's annual banquet on February 6, 2009; and |
|
WHEREAS, Beginning as a patrol officer in 1977, Larry |
|
Zacharias worked his way through almost every division and section |
|
of the Richardson Police Department, and he held such positions as |
|
SWAT commander and captain before becoming chief in 2002; in |
|
addition to his invaluable contributions to the city of Richardson, |
|
Chief Zacharias emerged as a strong advocate for public safety |
|
legislation at the state and national levels, and he served as chair |
|
of the Legislative Affairs Committee for the Texas Police Chiefs |
|
Association; he was also appointed to the Environmental Crimes |
|
Committee of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and |
|
he was selected as an instructor for the FBI's International |
|
Training Program; and |
|
WHEREAS, After devoting more than three decades to the |
|
Richardson police force, Chief Zacharias retired in 2008; his |
|
distinguished leadership helped make the department one of the most |
|
respected law enforcement agencies in North Texas, and it earned |
|
him numerous accolades, including the Career Achievement Award from |
|
the Texas Police Chiefs Association and the Community Builder Award |
|
from the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through his outstanding service to the community, |
|
Larry Zacharias has garnered the lasting respect and appreciation |
|
of his fellow residents, and his selfless efforts were duly |
|
recognized with this award from the Richardson Chamber of Commerce; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Larry Zacharias on his selection as |
|
Citizen of the Year and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|
continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Zacharias as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
