R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their
  memories of Nancy Jane Stevens of Corpus Christi, who passed away on
  December 29, 2008, at the age of 81; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, Mrs. Stevens was born on August
  29, 1927, and graduated from DePauw University, where she earned a
  degree in music; she shared many happy years with her husband,
  George Stevens, and the couple were blessed with two children, Dave
  and Tom; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to her family responsibilities, Mrs.
  Stevens shared her time with a number of community groups; she
  participated in activities of the Boy Scouts of America with her
  sons, devoted time to the local chapter of the Red Cross, and served
  on the boards of the Texas State Museum of Asian Cultures and the
  Corpus Christi Housing Authority; and
         WHEREAS, A lifelong Republican, Mrs. Stevens was a valued
  member of the Nueces County Republican Women and Texas Federation
  of Republican Women; in addition, she served as the Republican
  Presidential Elector in 2004, a delegate to the Republican National
  Convention in Miami in 1972, and chair of the Republican Party of
  Nueces County; and
         WHEREAS, This faithful member of Grace Presbyterian Church
  served her congregation as an elder since 1983, and was especially
  dedicated to the work of the children's ministry; in her free time,
  she enjoyed cheering on her favorite baseball teams, the Houston
  Astros and Corpus Christi Hooks; and
         WHEREAS, Nancy Jane Stevens lived a caring and purposeful
  life, and she will always be remembered with great tenderness and
  affection; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Nancy Jane Stevens and
  extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her sons,
  Dave and his wife, Sharon, and Tom and his wife, Mary; to her
  step-granddaughter, Jennifer; to her sister, Joanne Thebado; and to
  her other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Nancy Jane
  Stevens.
