R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their |
|
memories of Nancy Jane Stevens of Corpus Christi, who passed away on |
|
December 29, 2008, at the age of 81; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, Mrs. Stevens was born on August |
|
29, 1927, and graduated from DePauw University, where she earned a |
|
degree in music; she shared many happy years with her husband, |
|
George Stevens, and the couple were blessed with two children, Dave |
|
and Tom; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to her family responsibilities, Mrs. |
|
Stevens shared her time with a number of community groups; she |
|
participated in activities of the Boy Scouts of America with her |
|
sons, devoted time to the local chapter of the Red Cross, and served |
|
on the boards of the Texas State Museum of Asian Cultures and the |
|
Corpus Christi Housing Authority; and |
|
WHEREAS, A lifelong Republican, Mrs. Stevens was a valued |
|
member of the Nueces County Republican Women and Texas Federation |
|
of Republican Women; in addition, she served as the Republican |
|
Presidential Elector in 2004, a delegate to the Republican National |
|
Convention in Miami in 1972, and chair of the Republican Party of |
|
Nueces County; and |
|
WHEREAS, This faithful member of Grace Presbyterian Church |
|
served her congregation as an elder since 1983, and was especially |
|
dedicated to the work of the children's ministry; in her free time, |
|
she enjoyed cheering on her favorite baseball teams, the Houston |
|
Astros and Corpus Christi Hooks; and |
|
WHEREAS, Nancy Jane Stevens lived a caring and purposeful |
|
life, and she will always be remembered with great tenderness and |
|
affection; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Nancy Jane Stevens and |
|
extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her sons, |
|
Dave and his wife, Sharon, and Tom and his wife, Mary; to her |
|
step-granddaughter, Jennifer; to her sister, Joanne Thebado; and to |
|
her other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Nancy Jane |
|
Stevens. |
