R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Mary Jo |
|
Bartlett of Taylor, who died on February 22, 2009, at the age of 65; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Mary Jo Bartlett was born in Temple on April 3, 1943, |
|
to Thomas and Flora Simonington Barrett; and |
|
WHEREAS, The first woman police officer in the history of |
|
Williamson County, Ms. Bartlett began her career as a patrol |
|
officer with the Taylor Police Department in 1977; and |
|
WHEREAS, She worked her way up in a male-dominated field, |
|
earning promotions to the rank of sergeant and lieutenant, and |
|
finishing her distinguished 23-year career as a detective in the |
|
criminal investigations division; she retired in 2000; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mary Jo Bartlett was an exemplary peace officer |
|
whose tenacity and determination earned her much respect from her |
|
fellow officers; off duty, she was a caring and compassionate |
|
friend and mother who had a wonderful sense of humor and a kind |
|
disposition, and she will be forever remembered by all those who |
|
knew and loved her; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Mary Jo Bartlett and |
|
extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her |
|
sons, Mark Bartlett and Brian Bartlett and his wife, Shannon; to her |
|
sister, Betty Emmert, and her husband, Jack; to her brother, Terry |
|
Barrett; to her four grandchildren; and to her other relatives and |
|
many friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mary Jo |
|
Bartlett. |
