R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Mary Jo
  Bartlett of Taylor, who died on February 22, 2009, at the age of 65;
  and
         WHEREAS, Mary Jo Bartlett was born in Temple on April 3, 1943,
  to Thomas and Flora Simonington Barrett; and
         WHEREAS, The first woman police officer in the history of
  Williamson County, Ms. Bartlett began her career as a patrol
  officer with the Taylor Police Department in 1977; and
         WHEREAS, She worked her way up in a male-dominated field,
  earning promotions to the rank of sergeant and lieutenant, and
  finishing her distinguished 23-year career as a detective in the
  criminal investigations division; she retired in 2000; and
         WHEREAS, Mary Jo Bartlett was an exemplary peace officer
  whose tenacity and determination earned her much respect from her
  fellow officers; off duty, she was a caring and compassionate
  friend and mother who had a wonderful sense of humor and a kind
  disposition, and she will be forever remembered by all those who
  knew and loved her; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Mary Jo Bartlett and
  extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her
  sons, Mark Bartlett and Brian Bartlett and his wife, Shannon; to her
  sister, Betty Emmert, and her husband, Jack; to her brother, Terry
  Barrett; to her four grandchildren; and to her other relatives and
  many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mary Jo
  Bartlett.
