R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly
  cause for celebration, and Carl Fisher of Midland is reaching that
  impressive milestone on March 19, 2009; and
         WHEREAS, Born in 1909 in Maryville, Missouri, to Jesse and
  Maude Fisher, Carl Fisher gained a lifelong love of learning from
  his father, who was both a skilled mechanic and an avid reader; Mr.
  Fisher later earned a degree in social studies with a minor in music
  from Northwest Missouri State Teachers College; and
         WHEREAS, Following his graduation, Mr. Fisher got a job in a
  small town in Michigan, teaching social studies as well as
  directing the choir and the annual school play; and
         WHEREAS, It was during this period that he was joined in
  marriage to his college sweetheart, Betty, and the couple enjoyed a
  long and loving relationship until her death in the 1980s; and
         WHEREAS, At the beginning of their life together in Michigan,
  Mr. and Mrs. Fisher were blessed with two children, Patricia and
  Jack; with a young family to support, Mr. Fisher changed careers,
  taking a job with the Gulf Oil Company and working in Tulsa,
  Seminole, Durango, Billings, and Salt Lake City; and
         WHEREAS, In the 1960s, he was transferred to Gulf's Midland
  division, where he worked in a number of positions and retired in
  1975 as section supervisor in the Comptroller Department; and
         WHEREAS, Carl Fisher has witnessed many changes in the past
  century, but the blessings of inspiring parents, a loving wife and
  children, and many wonderful friends have remained constant sources
  of strength and wisdom, and he may indeed reflect with pride on all
  that he has experienced during a full and generous life; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Carl Fisher of Midland on the
  occasion of his 100th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes
  for a meaningful and memorable celebration; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Fisher as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
