R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Benefit Pow Wow in Pasadena brings together |
|
Native American peoples in the Houston area every month for a |
|
celebration of their rich cultures, proud heritage, and deep |
|
spiritual roots; and |
|
WHEREAS, Texas has the fourth-largest population of Native |
|
Americans in the nation, and the pow wow provides a fine opportunity |
|
for Houston's Indians to share their history and beliefs with the |
|
general public and to pass their traditions to a new generation; and |
|
WHEREAS, Sponsored by a new organization, United American |
|
Indian Tribes Houston, the monthly pow wow features ceremonial |
|
dances performed by members of various tribes in their traditional |
|
regalia; the event is open to anyone, and participants and visitors |
|
may also sample traditional foods and crafts; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Benefit Pow Wow plays an important role in |
|
maintaining the cultural vitality of the native peoples of Texas |
|
and contributes greatly to the robust diversity of the Lone Star |
|
State; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize the monthly Benefit Pow Wow of United |
|
American Indian Tribes Houston and commend the event's organizers |
|
and participants for honoring traditions of Native American |
|
cultures; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for United American Indian Tribes Houston as an expression |
|
of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
