H.R. No. 830

R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The decisive actions of Officer Dru Greer of the
Pasadena Police Department helped save several people from a
burning building in north Houston on February 19, 2009; and
WHEREAS, In the early morning hours, Officer Greer was
transporting a juvenile in his patrol car when he noticed flames
coming from a complex of small residences; and
WHEREAS, Officer Greer immediately stopped his car and called
the Houston Fire Department; he then began knocking on doors and
assisting the building's occupants to safety; and
WHEREAS, When the resident of one unit refused to believe
Officer Greer and told him to go away, the officer kicked in the
  door and escorted the man from the building, saving his life;
everyone Officer Greer assisted made it to safety, and no one was
  hurt; and
WHEREAS, Dru Greer started with the Pasadena department as a
dispatcher in 2004; although he has been a sworn officer for little
more than a year, his bravery and decisiveness in a dangerous
situation demonstrate that he has found his true calling in the
field of law enforcement; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby commend Officer Dru Greer of the Pasadena Police
Department for his courageous actions and extend to him sincere
best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Officer Greer as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
