R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, German exchange student Annika Hofmann and her
  mother, Anita Hofmann, are touring Austin on March 18, 2009, and
  their visit to the State Capitol helps to reinforce the
  long-standing bonds of friendship between their nation and the
  State of Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Just as young Texans benefit by spending time
  abroad, foreign students gain valuable insights into the history
  and culture of the Lone Star State by enjoying the hospitality of
  their host families and their Texan classmates; and
         WHEREAS, The bridges of understanding that are built during
  these exchanges play a vital role in helping the next generation of
  leaders broaden their minds through daily experience of another
  culture; and
         WHEREAS, A 17-year-old from the city of Landshut, Germany,
  Annika Hofmann is currently a junior at Burleson High School, where
  she is excelling in her studies as she works toward her goal of a
  career in medicine; she is a gifted athlete as well, lettering in
  track at Burleson; and
         WHEREAS, This talented and outgoing young woman has adapted
  admirably well to the extremes of Texas weather, and she has
  mastered the use of such essential Texas idioms as "howdy" and
  "y'all"; and
         WHEREAS, The visit to Austin of Ms. Hofmann and her mother
  provides a fine opportunity to celebrate the intellectual curiosity
  and spirit of adventure of all exchange students, and it is indeed a
  pleasure to welcome them both to the State Capitol; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby offer a warm Texas welcome to Annika and Anita
  Hofmann and extend to them sincere best wishes for an enjoyable and
  memorable stay in Austin; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Annika and Anita Hofmann as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
