R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, After nearly two decades of distinguished service, |
|
Jim Wyatt is retiring from the Victoria City Council in May 2009; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Victoria's first African American council member |
|
and mayor pro tempore, Jim Wyatt won the District 5 seat in 1988 and |
|
held it until 1995; since his return to the city council in 2000, he |
|
has served continuously through his current term, and he has chosen |
|
not to seek reelection; having been employed as a materials manager |
|
for DuPont, Mr. Wyatt brought a unique perspective and a range of |
|
business expertise to municipal government, and he played an |
|
instrumental role in such projects as the sports complex, the skate |
|
park, and Lone Tree Road; he was also particularly interested in |
|
providing programs and activities for at-risk youth, and he |
|
encouraged them to seek peaceful means of resolving conflicts; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to his participation on the city |
|
council, Mr. Wyatt has served on the board of directors of the Texas |
|
Municipal League and as president of the Texas Association of |
|
Mayors and Council Members; he has also been active in numerous |
|
community organizations, including the African American Chamber of |
|
Commerce of Victoria, the Task Force Toward Community Peace, and |
|
the Victoria World Hunger Project; and |
|
WHEREAS, A dedicated public servant, Jim Wyatt is an |
|
inspiration to his fellow citizens, and he may indeed reflect with |
|
great pride on his many notable achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Jim Wyatt for his outstanding |
|
contributions to the Victoria City Council and extend to him |
|
sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Wyatt as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
