R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Ciro Trevino of Edinburg has been named the 2008
  School Board Trustee of the Year by the Texas Classroom Teachers
  Association; and
         WHEREAS, Ciro Trevino has been a member of the Edinburg
  Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees since
  2005; reelected in 2008, he is now serving his second term; and
         WHEREAS, During his tenure on the board, 12 of the district's
  schools have earned an exemplary rating and 15 have earned a
  recognized rating from the Texas Education Agency; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School, Mr.
  Trevino served in the U.S. Navy; early in his career, he worked as
  an accountant and an insurance agent; and
         WHEREAS, This dynamic and engaged citizen first served his
  community in the late 1960s, when he was elected to the Edinburg
  City Council; from 1969 to 1972, he served as justice of the peace
  for Precinct 4, and in 1972, he was elected Hidalgo County tax
  assessor, a position he held until 1996; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Trevino has also served as president of the Tax
  Assessor-Collectors Association of Texas and the Texas Association
  of Assessing Officers and as chair of the Texas Board of Tax
  Professional Examiners; in addition, he has served as vice chair of
  the Edinburg Housing Authority board, as a board member of the
  Hidalgo County Appraisal District, as commander of Freddy Gonzalez
  American Legion Post No. 408, and as a member of the Veterans of
  Foreign Wars; and
         WHEREAS, Ciro Trevino has dedicated his life to the
  betterment of his community, and his exemplary efforts in behalf of
  Edinburg's students and schools are truly worthy of this
  prestigious award; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Ciro Trevino on his selection as
  the Texas Classroom Teachers Association 2008 School Board Trustee
  of the Year and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Trevino as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
