R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, A 55th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of love |
|
|
and shared experiences, and Vernon and Clara Harkins of Midland |
|
|
celebrated this joyous event in their marriage on January 30, 2009; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Vernon Harkins and the former Clara Crocker were |
|
|
joined in matrimony in 1954, at a ceremony held in Fort Sumner, New |
|
|
Mexico; they have since shared a fulfilling marriage and raised |
|
|
five beloved children, David Harkins, Becki Tomamichel, Julie Cobb, |
|
|
Johanna Elmore, and the late Brenda Saunders; with the passing |
|
|
years, they have welcomed the addition of 11 grandchildren and 10 |
|
|
great-grandchildren into their family; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Respected members of their community, the couple |
|
|
followed employment opportunities for Mr. Harkins in the oil |
|
|
industry and lived in Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Odessa |
|
|
before settling in Midland; his career included work with Shell Oil |
|
|
Company and TXO Production, from which he retired after 17 years; |
|
|
Mrs. Harkins is a dedicated homemaker who has won awards as a |
|
|
talented doll maker; together they are valued congregants of First |
|
|
United Pentecostal Church; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Harkins have enjoyed 5-1/2 decades of |
|
|
abiding love and affection for one another, and they are among an |
|
|
exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a lasting |
|
|
commitment; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Vernon and Clara Harkins on their |
|
|
55th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Harkins as an expression of high regard by |
|
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
