R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of the 2008-2009 mariachi band from
  Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School brought great distinction to their
  school by earning a number of notable accolades in University
  Interscholastic League music competitions; and
         WHEREAS, PSJA High School had 18 students achieve a Division
  1 rating; two violin players, Ashley Alvarez and Lisa Rojas, were
  recognized for performing class 3 solos, while acknowledgment for
  performing class 2 solos went to Lee Carrera on viola, Maggie Cantu
  on cello, and Anhalie Farias on violin; moreover, 13 band members
  qualified for class 1 solo honors:  Jason Aguilera on viola, Andrew
  Balandrano on violin and marimba, Julian Caballero on violin and
  viola, Gerardo Leon on cello, Michael Lizcano on violin, Yesenia
  Franks on viola, Itzchelli Garcia on violin, Leah Jasso, Selina
  Sandoval on violin, Orlando Tijerina on violin, Janet Vasquez on
  viola, Kristina Santana, and Christine Martinez on viola; in
  addition, Mr. Caballero, Mr. Leon, Mr. Lizcano, and Ms. Martinez
  received the rating for class 1 string quartet performance; and
         WHEREAS, Several other achievements were earned by the PSJA
  High School mariachi musicians; Mr. Aguilera, Mr. Balandrano, Mr.
  Caballero, Mr. Leon, Mr. Lizcano, Ms. Franks, Ms. Garcia, Ms.
  Jasso, Mr. Tijerina, Ms. Vasquez, Ms. Santana, and Ms. Martinez
  qualified for the 2009 Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest; Mr.
  Caballero and Ms. Martinez each participated in the Region 15
  All-Region Orchestra, with Ms. Martinez playing first chair violin;
  Ms. Santana sang with the All-District Choir, and Ms. Jasso took
  part in the All-Region Choir; and
         WHEREAS, Each of these notable honors represents the
  culmination of countless hours of hard work and dedication, and the
  student-musicians of the PSJA mariachi program will carry the
  memory of these accomplishments with them for many years to come;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the Pharr-San
  Juan-Alamo High School mariachi program on their myriad competitive
  achievements and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued
  success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the program as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
