R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Santa Rosa Palomino Club is celebrating its 60th
  anniversary in 2009, and this milestone provides a fitting
  opportunity to honor an organization that is recognized as one of
  the nation's premier western riding clubs; and
         WHEREAS, Based in Vernon, in Wilbarger County, the Santa Rosa
  Palomino Club has been a featured attraction at rodeos, equestrian
  events, and charity benefits throughout the southwestern United
  States; mounted on beautifully matched palomino horses, the club
  members delight audiences with their precision riding maneuvers and
  their colorful flags and attire; and
         WHEREAS, The Santa Rosa riders have proven their abilities in
  competition; they have twice won the National Drill Team
  Championships and have claimed more than 400 first-place trophies
  from parade appearances in Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, Colorado, New
  Mexico, Tennessee, Indiana, Wyoming, and Alabama; the national
  stature of the club has been further boosted through coverage in
  books and national magazines and through appearances on television
  programs, including the Today show; and
         WHEREAS, On the occasion of its 40th anniversary in 1989, the
  club was designated as the official Ambassadors on Horseback for
  the State of Texas by the 71st Texas Legislature, a title that it
  continues to hold today; the organization has ridden in two
  governor's inaugural parades and participated in numerous other
  events in which it has represented the Lone Star State; and
         WHEREAS, Through the years, more than 200 skilled equestrian
  enthusiasts have been members of the organization, including second
  and third generation family members and a number of Wilbarger
  County's leading citizens; and
         WHEREAS, Renowned for their charity work, club members have
  made appearances at schools and hospitals across Texas over the
  course of 30 years, spending countless hours giving horseback rides
  to disabled children; in addition, they have provided horses and
  activities for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and have performed in
  fund-raising events to aid rehabilitation centers and to assist in
  the fight against diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and multiple
  sclerosis; and
         WHEREAS, The club sponsored and produced the Santa Rosa
  Roundup for many years, continuing a tradition begun by the late E.
  Paul Waggoner to bring the best in professional rodeo to North
  Texas, and the club continues to support the rodeo through
  countless hours of work by members and as a featured specialty act
  at the event; and
         WHEREAS, For six decades, Santa Rosa Palomino Club has
  distinguished itself as a top-rank riding group that has admirably
  devoted its time and talents to benefit others, and the group's
  efforts have helped to further the proud western heritage of the
  Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Santa Rosa Palomino Club on its
  60th anniversary and extend to its members best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the club as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
