R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Shaolin Kung Fu Academy in Houston is staging a
  multidisciplinary martial arts performance on March 28, 2009, to
  raise funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; and
         WHEREAS, Students of the Houston Shaolin Kung Fu Academy
  compete in regional tournaments and provide demonstrations of their
  abilities throughout the city and the surrounding area; founded in
  1998, the academy encourages its students to observe the Shaolin
  values of tolerance, righteousness, and respect and urges them to
  develop a strong sense of community, and this benefit performance
  is a means of putting those ideals into practice; and
         WHEREAS, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is a leading
  facility for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and
  other devastating diseases of childhood; this generous
  organization provides assistance regardless of a patient's ability
  to pay, and the institution relies on donations acquired through
  fund-raising sources to underwrite its services; and
         WHEREAS, Houston Shaolin Kung Fu Academy and St. Jude
  Children's Research Hospital are joining together to further a
  worthy goal, and it is a pleasure to recognize this significant
  charitable event; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Shaolin Kung Fu Academy on the occasion
  of its 2009 charity performance to benefit St. Jude Children's
  Research Hospital and encourage area citizens to support this
  admirable endeavor; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the academy as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
