R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, For more than five decades, Bob Bolen has |
|
contributed to the city of Fort Worth through his numerous |
|
professional and civic endeavors; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Chicago, Mr. Bolen grew up in Shreveport, |
|
Louisiana, and in Fort Worth; answering his nation's call to duty, |
|
he entered the U.S. Navy in 1945, and on concluding his service, he |
|
earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Texas |
|
A&M University in 1948; he founded Bolen Enterprises in 1952, and he |
|
served as CEO of the Fort Worth business for more than four decades; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1979, Mr. Bolen joined the Fort Worth City |
|
Council, and three years later, he was elected mayor; he won |
|
subsequent bids for reelection, and his tenure spanned nearly a |
|
decade, until his retirement from municipal government in 1991; |
|
Mayor Bolen was instrumental in the establishment of the Fort Worth |
|
Transportation Authority, and he also spearheaded various joint |
|
projects with neighboring jurisdictions; he worked closely with the |
|
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, the DFW Regional Sports |
|
Commission, and the North Texas Commission; in addition, he served |
|
as president of Fort Worth Sister Cities International and the |
|
Texas Municipal League, and he was active in the National League of |
|
Cities as its president and as chair of the Transportation and |
|
Communications Policy Committee; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Bolen has served as the senior advisor to the |
|
chancellor at Texas Christian University since 1991; in this role, |
|
he focuses on public relations and community service projects for |
|
the university, and he is a visiting lecturer in the Neeley School |
|
of Business; Mr. Bolen has also been affiliated with myriad local |
|
organizations, including the Rotary Club, the YMCA, and Westminster |
|
Presbyterian Church, and he was on the boards of Speedway |
|
Children's Charities and Performing Arts Fort Worth, Inc.; he |
|
maintains his involvement in the community as a chair of the |
|
Citizens Committee on Fort Worth's Future and as a member of the |
|
executive committee of the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce; and |
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed leader has received such accolades as |
|
the TCU Royal Purple Award and the Distinguished Alumnus Award from |
|
Texas A&M University; moreover, he has been awarded honorary |
|
doctoral degrees in public service from the University of North |
|
Texas and TCU and in the humanities from Texas Wesleyan University; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Mr. Bolen enjoys the love and |
|
support of his wife, Frances, and their six children; together, the |
|
couple have supported youth programs, and they provide scholarships |
|
to TCU students each year; and |
|
WHEREAS, With an unwavering commitment to his fellow |
|
citizens, Bob Bolen has garnered the lasting respect and admiration |
|
of all who know him, and he may indeed reflect with great pride on |
|
the positive impact he has had on the city of Fort Worth; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Bob Bolen for his notable achievements and |
|
contributions to his community and extend to him sincere best |
|
wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Bolen as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
