R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Since 2000, Travis Allan Bryan has devoted more than |
|
6,000 hours of volunteer community service to the citizens of |
|
Texas; and |
|
WHEREAS, His contributions as a soldier, EMT, educator, |
|
political activist, Coast Guard Auxiliary member, Boy Scout leader, |
|
and ESGR committee member represent over three years of devoted |
|
service to his community and to his country; and |
|
WHEREAS, Travis Bryan enlisted as a military police officer |
|
in the Texas State Guard in 2005, and three years later, he was |
|
commissioned a second lieutenant in the Medical Reserve Brigade by |
|
Governor Rick Perry; and |
|
WHEREAS, In his work as a soldier and master military |
|
emergency management specialist, Mr. Bryan has served with |
|
distinction, volunteering for a number of humanitarian service |
|
operations in the Rio Grande Valley and for relief efforts |
|
following Hurricanes Katrina, Dolly, Gustav, and Ike; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since 2005, the President's Council on Service and |
|
Civic Participation has bestowed on this outstanding young Texan |
|
the Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award four times; moreover, |
|
the council recognized him with its highest honor, the President's |
|
Call to Service Award, in 2007; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Bryan's tireless dedication to his community and |
|
to humanitarian efforts has been acknowledged by the governors of |
|
11 states, including Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, |
|
Louisiana, Maryland, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, |
|
Oklahoma, and West Virginia, as well as by local elected officials |
|
throughout the country; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Pasadena to Michael R. Bryan, Sr., and the |
|
former Marla L. Starkey, Mr. Bryan has made education a priority in |
|
his life, and he has earned a certificate in emergency medical |
|
technology with honors from San Jacinto Community College and a |
|
certificate in emergency management with distinction from |
|
Frederick Community College in Maryland; since then, he has |
|
graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in religion from |
|
Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, where he is currently a |
|
candidate for a master of business administration degree in |
|
leadership; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Bryan has contributed financially to many |
|
notable organizations through his membership in the Association of |
|
the United States Army, the Enlisted Association of the National |
|
Guard of the United States, the National Guard Association of |
|
Texas, the State Guard Association of the United States, the Texas |
|
State Guard nonprofit association, the National Association for |
|
Search and Rescue, and the National Rifle Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 2008, Mr. Bryan was elected president and chair |
|
of the National Association for Justice and Legal Reform and has |
|
further shared his time and talents through his leadership in |
|
numerous other civic and community organizations; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Bryan presently serves as a precinct chair, |
|
presiding election judge, and volunteer deputy voter registrar in |
|
Harris County, and in 2008, he served on a Harris County signature |
|
verification committee and Early Voting Ballot Board; and |
|
WHEREAS, With the love and support of his wife, Amber, and his |
|
three children, Joshua, Matthew, and Brianna, Travis Bryan has |
|
devoted himself to serving his fellow Texans and to many worthy |
|
causes in which he believes; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Travis Allan Bryan for his exemplary |
|
service to his community and to the State of Texas and extend to him |
|
sincere best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Bryan as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
