R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A 70th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of love
  and shared experiences, and Henry and Sammie Dishongh of Point
  celebrated this joyous milestone in their marriage on February 17,
  2009; and
         WHEREAS, Their romance began in late 1938, at Citizens State
  Bank in Houston, where customer Sammie Sturgis Anderson was smitten
  with the handsome young teller, Wilmer Henry Dishongh; a formal
  introduction by a mutual friend led to their first date--a movie and
  a hamburger at the Princess Drive-in; love soon blossomed and on
  February 17, 1939, Mr. Dishongh and Miss Anderson were married in
  nearby Rosenberg; and
         WHEREAS, In the early years of their marriage, Mrs. Dishongh
  volunteered with her church and the American Red Cross; as their
  family grew to eventually include four daughters, she focused on
  her work as a mother and homemaker; in 1968, she became the owner
  and sole operator of Point Insurance Agency and enjoyed a 40-year
  career with that company until her retirement in January 2009; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Dishongh joined the U.S. Navy in 1944, and when
  he returned home the next year, he moved his family to Lake Jackson,
  where he held the position of vice president and later, president,
  of Lake Jackson State Bank; following several moves within Texas
  and Louisiana, they settled in Point in 1968; there, Mr. Dishongh
  became president, CEO, and owner of the First State Bank of Point
  and later worked for AAA Wire and as a consultant, until his
  retirement in 1982; he also served the citizens of Point as mayor,
  taking an active role in many expansion projects within the city,
  and in 2008 he was honored as the community's oldest World War II
  veteran; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Dishongh have both fully participated
  in civic life, volunteering with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, the Lions
  Club, and the Order of the Eastern Star, which Mrs. Dishongh has
  served as Worthy Matron; and
         WHEREAS, Today, the couple delight in their treasured family,
  which includes their daughters, Patricia Ann, Mary Lynn, Nancy Jo,
  and Sandra Kay, as well as eight grandchildren and eight
  great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Dishongh have enjoyed seven decades of
  abiding love and affection for one another, and they are among an
  exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a lasting
  commitment; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Henry and Sammie Dishongh on their
  70th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for
  continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Dishongh as an expression of high regard
  by the Texas House of Representatives.
