R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, John R. Parish has received the 2009 Pioneer Award
  from the Andrews Chamber of Commerce, and this occasion provides a
  fitting opportunity to honor this esteemed Texan; and
         WHEREAS, Born in 1931 in Wichita County, John Parish worked
  at a young age to help support his family; he graduated from Iowa
  Park High School in 1948, and answering his nation's call to duty
  two years later, he served with the U.S. Marines in Korea; he went
  on to attend Midwestern State University and to begin working in the
  oilfields of East Texas; Mr. Parish moved to Andrews in 1956 and
  obtained a position with Tretolite Chemicals as a field service
  engineer; he later launched his own business, the John R. Parish Oil
  Company, through which he drilled new wells and reworked others he
  had purchased; still tending to 25 oil wells today, Mr. Parish has
  established himself as a knowledgeable and highly regarded
  businessman within the oil and gas industry of West Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Despite his busy professional life, Mr. Parish has
  volunteered his time and resources to his community, serving on the
  boards of local schools, as well as the Permian Regional Medical
  Center, and participating in the Lions Club; he has also been active
  in the Andrews Industrial Foundation, helping to bring in
  prospective new industries and diversify the local economy; and
         WHEREAS, A generous and dedicated citizen, John Parish has
  earned the lasting respect and admiration of all who know him, and
  he may indeed reflect with great pride on his notable civic
  contributions; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate John R. Parish on his receipt of
  the 2009 Pioneer Award from the Andrews Chamber of Commerce and
  extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Parish as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
