R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, John W. Cooper has been inducted into the Odessa |
|
Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame, and this occasion provides a |
|
fitting opportunity to honor this esteemed Texan; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in San Antonio on June 28, 1925, John Cooper |
|
went on to graduate from Alamo Heights High School and to earn a |
|
bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University; |
|
answering his nation's call to duty, he joined the U.S. Army and |
|
served as an officer in the Philippines during World War II; in |
|
1947, he married Doris Couch in Gainesville, and the couple were |
|
blessed with two children, Deborah and John; they later shared the |
|
joy of welcoming four grandchildren into their treasured family; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Since 1952, Mr. Cooper has owned a general |
|
construction business in Odessa, and his company has built numerous |
|
schools, churches, manufacturing plants, and other structures in |
|
Texas, New Mexico, and other states; in addition, Mr. Cooper has |
|
served as president of the West Texas chapter of the Associated |
|
General Contractors of America, as well as the Kiwanis Club of |
|
Odessa, the Odessa Country Club, and the Midland-Odessa Symphony |
|
and Chorale; he has also volunteered his time as a board member of |
|
the Salvation Army, United Way, Permian Playhouse, Odessa Boys Club |
|
Foundation, and Seabury Center, and he has been a faithful |
|
congregant of St. John's Episcopal Church for more than five |
|
decades; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community and his profession, John |
|
Cooper has garnered the lasting respect and admiration of his |
|
fellow residents, and he may indeed reflect with great pride on his |
|
civic contributions; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate John W. Cooper on his induction |
|
into the Odessa Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame and extend to him |
|
sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Cooper as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
