R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Robinson High School Rockets girls' basketball |
|
team won the 2009 University Interscholastic League 3A state |
|
championship with a dominating 49-33 victory over Argyle High |
|
School on March 7 at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin; and |
|
WHEREAS, In capturing the second state crown in school |
|
history, the Rockets controlled the contest from start to finish, |
|
scoring the game's first nine points and maintaining a double-digit |
|
advantage from the first quarter on; Rachel Hargis contributed 20 |
|
points, 13 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots to earn most valuable |
|
player honors for the title game; and |
|
WHEREAS, Completing their championship journey with a season |
|
record of 34 wins and just 5 defeats, the Robinson High players |
|
bested the state's two top-ranked teams during their march through |
|
the playoffs; their triumphs were made possible through a total |
|
team effort that included valuable contributions from Ms. Hargis |
|
and each member of the Robinson squad: Shanna Brown, Hannah Abbe, |
|
Makenzy Antis, Mackenzie Roach, Kristin Light, Alex Alexander, |
|
Aaron Sulak, Haley Weaver, Molly Cooper, Ashley James, and Kayla |
|
Hines; and |
|
WHEREAS, Skillfully guided by head coach Brenda Gomez, the |
|
Rockets also received vital support from assistant coaches Kelly |
|
Nunn and Bradley Marek, athletic director Brian Lewis, principal |
|
Jeanie Johnson, and superintendent Michael Hope; and |
|
WHEREAS, Winning a state championship requires countless |
|
hours of hard work and an unwavering commitment to excellence, and |
|
the memories of this outstanding achievement will remain with these |
|
talented student-athletes for the rest of their lives; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Robinson High School Rockets |
|
girls' basketball team on winning the 2009 UIL 3A state |
|
championship and extend sincere best wishes to the players, |
|
coaches, and staff for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
