H.R. No. 992

R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, School bus driver Margaret Bloomfield of the Lake
  Travis Independent School District came to the aid of an injured man
  along her route on January 30, 2009, helping to save the man's life;
  and
         WHEREAS, While driving her route every day, Ms. Bloomfield
  had often exchanged a wave with Norman Birrell, who rides a golf
  cart in the Homestead neighborhood daily; on this day, however, Ms.
  Bloomfield came across the cart overturned in a ditch; and
         WHEREAS, Stopping the bus, Ms. Bloomfield spied Mr. Birrell
  lying in the ditch by the vehicle; she radioed her dispatcher to
  call for help, secured the children on the bus, and went to Mr.
  Birrell's aid; and
         WHEREAS, While the pair waited for emergency personnel to
  arrive, Ms. Bloomfield comforted Mr. Birrell and called his wife to
  help distract the injured man; remembering her first aid training
  from her previous career as a hotel office manager, she also
  insisted that he not move; since Mr. Birrell's injuries included a
  broken neck, her wise counsel saved him from potential paralysis or
  even death; and
         WHEREAS, Through her swift, levelheaded, and compassionate
  response in an emergency, Margaret Bloomfield has made an
  immeasurable difference in the life of another human being, and she
  is indeed worthy of special recognition for her lifesaving efforts;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Margaret Bloomfield for coming to the
  aid of an injured man and extend to her sincere best wishes for all
  the good fortune she so richly deserves; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Bloomfield as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
