R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Harold
  Benjamin Moore of Houston, who died in February 2009 at the age of
  83; and
         WHEREAS, Harold Moore was born in Houston on November 13,
  1925, to Roosevelt and Pauline Moore; he was raised in the Fifth
  Ward, where he attended Shiloh Baptist Church and graduated from
  Phillis Wheatley High School in 1942; and
         WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Moore
  enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942; during his military service, he
  trained as a boxer and became a Negro State Welterweight Champion;
  after his discharge as a Steward 3rd Class in 1945, he attended
  Texas Southern University and later earned a diploma in cooking and
  baking; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Moore's career with the federal government
  spanned some 35 years and included employment with the U.S. Post
  Office and the Veterans Administration; and
         WHEREAS, Following his retirement in 1991, he fulfilled a
  lifelong dream and became a rancher, raising livestock on his
  property near Brenham; he was also a member of the Northside Riding
  Club and Greater True Light Missionary Baptist Church; and
         WHEREAS, Harold Moore had a generosity of spirit that
  expressed itself in myriad ways; he delighted in the company of
  young people and enjoyed mentoring them and encouraging them to
  follow their dreams; he was also a fun-loving man who found great
  pleasure in dancing and in good conversation, and he especially
  loved discussing history; and
         WHEREAS, Those who were fortunate enough to know Harold Moore
  will remember the way he touched their lives with his kindness and
  optimism, and he will forever hold a treasured place in their
  hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Harold Benjamin
  Moore and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family:
  to his wife of 50 years, Lois J. Moore; to his daughter, Yolanda
  Williams, and her husband, Michael; to his granddaughters, Kendra
  and Jasmine Williams; to his brother, Oscar Moore, and his wife,
  Joyce; to his sister, Faye L. Moore; and to his other relatives and
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Harold
  Moore.
